Mounting bracket required when installed on J-400 series (6000-514)
The cover lifter should be mounted so the cover lifts up on the backside of the spa. (The side that does not have the touchpad). There are multiple reasons for this.
1. On a J-400 in particular, the spa is raised at the back and has a different corner radius, so the cover can only go one way. (See image below)
2. The touchpad is at the front, so you don't want the cover blocking access to the touchpad when lifted up.
3. The access panel comes off at the front for maintenance, so you don't want to have to remove the cover lifter for maintenance access.

If you are installing a cover lifter on your swim spa, you will be required to fence around the area containing the steps and the cover lifter. (except NSW where fencing may not be required). If you have received advice that you only need to fence around your steps, this does not apply when a cover lifter is installed on your swim spa.
Portable spas require fencing around the entire spa in all states except NSW, regardless of whether a cover lifter is installed.
Please check with your local authorities for current regulations.
